One of the most commonly debated topics in Primary Schools was "Teachers are better than Doctors: Support or Oppose". Funny enough, the group in support of the motion tends to win most times. Teachers are nation builders and the Teaching profession is a noble one.
Today is World's Teachers day, a day set aside to celebrated and acknowledge the roles of Teachers in the society globally. Held annually on the 5th of October since 1994, World Teachers’ Day commemorates the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers which sets benchmarks regarding the rights and responsibilities of teachers and standards for their initial preparation and further education, recruitment, employment, and teaching and learning conditions.
This years celebration is quite unique, especially when we observe the vital roles played by teachers to ensure that no Child is hindered from learning amidst the pandemic. Many teachers have relentlessly conducted online classes and tutorials to ensure students are kept occupied while staying at home.
A report from UNICEF in 2020 showed that children around the world appreciated their teachers for sacrificing their times and lives to teach them during and after COVID- 19 pandemic, hence, this year's World Teacher's Day theme is celebrated with the theme “Teachers: Leading in crisis, reimagining the future”.
Appreciate your Teachers today
