I discovered a new word recently, “Pluviophile” which means a lover of rain, or someone that finds joy and peace in rainy seasons. The Rainy season in Nigeria means different things to different people, to some it’s a perfect time to unleash creative ideas and for some, they just can't wait till the rainy season is past.
Here are a few tricks I recommend you do to survive the rainy season in Nigeria whether you are a lover of the season or not.
Get a Rainproof gear
This is likely the most important trick you need to survive the rainy season in Nigeria, you certainly won’t want to get stuck in a location because of a heavy downpour. A Rainproof gear such as Rainproof bags, Umbrellas, Raincoats would protect you and your gadgets from the rain.
Keep Mosquitos away
Mosquitoes use stagnant water as a breeding ground for their offsprings. During the rainy season, there would be more potholes filled with water and your gutters are most likely to be full if there is no good drainage system. You need to ensure that your drainage systems are cleaned regularly and add little oil to stagnant waters to hinder Mosquitos larvae from striving.
You will need to get a Mosquito repellant, Insecticide sprays and Mosquito killer lamp.
Get an Alternative power option
In Nigeria, for some safety reasons the power goes out when the rain comes down. You do not need to be hindered by this, you can get an alternative power option such as Power Banks, Inverters, Generators and Solar Chargers. There are some powerful portable power banks that would keep your phone charged all day long. Invest in a power alternative today
Strengthen your immune system against flu
Sickness reduces productivity, the body is most susceptible to some cases of flu during the rainy seasons and microbes survive more in moist environments
Get some thick clothing to keep you safe and warm, buy drugs that help immune systems, eat fruits and vegetables a lot in the rainy season
Regularly monitor your vehicle
Your vehicle is really important to you, especially in the rainy season. Always ensure that the battery and other important parts are in good working conditions.
The rainy season is lovely but can go in a wrong turn if you are not well prepared for it.
Stay safe. Stay Dry and protect yourself
